Project summary

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is one of several governmental agencies which provide official development assistance to support the development of infrastructures and social services in developing countries.

For the last several years, the JBIC has been making efforts to address poverty reduction, and has compiled poverty profiles for 20 countries. As it embarks on a process of doubling its African development assistance in support of its pursuit of the Millennium Development Goals, it has become necessary for the JBIC to update existing profiles, and prepare new profiles of African countries.

As such, this research project aims to conduct studies to prepare a poverty profile of the Republic of South Africa.
