Project summary
The aim of the project was to evaluate the functioning of a sample of Business Against Crime supported victim empowerment initiatives in Gauteng and Mpumalanga. The study found that local victim support programmes (VSPs) were in place and working well. However, proper records were not kept, making evaluation very difficult.
Provincial and national structures of the VSPs were under a great deal of pressure and not functioning to their full capacity. Feedback from victims who have used the service was positive. Partnerships need to be built with government and non-government service providers.
