The new structure
Previously, the HSRC management structure was of the type described as flat or horizontal, with the CEO fulfilling both strategic and operational responsibilities, albeit at a high level. Since the HSRC is a more complex entity, with critical national and global links and obligations, it become necessary to redesign the top management structure in order to enhance efficiency while creating space for the CEO to devote greater attention to strategic leadership, and to the HSRC’s national and international interests. The new structure therefore creates two positions of Deputy CEO, one with immediate responsibility for research programmes, and the other for Operations and Capacity Enhancement.
